Lotte Stevens

Language trainer and digital nomad from Belgium

With my own fearless learning method, I help you to speak Spanish with ease in everyday situations.

My name is Lotte, I am an independent language trainer and speak 6 languages Fluently. I grew up in the north of Belgium (Kalmthout, anyone?) and have meanwhile studied, worked and traveled in 36 countries. I teach languages according to my own learning method, that I developed over the course of many words… uhm years 😉

As a student and a dj I was drawn more to the Brussel nightlife than the uni’s auditorium. Failing was not an option though, and I had a very efficient way of studying (luckily!). I got my “Master of Science in de Agogische Wetenschappen” at the VUB and a “Master of Multilingual Professional Communication” at the University Antwerp. During a 6-month Erasmus exchange at the Università degli Studi di Firenze, I discovered my passion for languages.

The passion for traveling had long been there and as soon as I finished studying, I jumped on a plane to South America for a 12-month epic solo trip. After returning home, my professional career started at the public broadcasting company VRT in Brussels.

Working as a radio host for Radio Donna and MNM was lots of fun. From there, I moved on to become a news presenter for Studio Brussel and a journalist and reporter for the Flemish radio news.

A solo cycling trip to Istanbul and a leap of faith made me move to Germany in 2013. There I worked as a project manager in IT, leading projects and trainings in 10 countries and 6 languages.

In the summer of 2018 I started my own business. I work online only and live as a digital nomad. Currently I am in… Uruguay!

What my students say about me

Why does someone learn 6 languages?

I get this question very often: “Why did you learn all those languages?”

“And how?”

People get very curious as soon as they discover I speak six languages fluently. And even more when they hear me speak in their language, without much of an accent, sounding pretty much like a local. They wonder why anyone would do that to themselves. Walk that long, painful road of language learning, the horror of pages full of grammar, vocabulary, rules and exceptions, again and again.

“So, how did you manage?”

Good question…

3 fun facts you probably didn’t know about me

One. Cycling is my all time favorite sport. In spring 2012 I solo cycled from Belgium to Turkey, from Antwerp to Istanbul. It took me seven weeks, through the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy again, Greece and Turkey.

Two. I would love to live in a tiny house. Last year I decluttered for real, and I don’t have much left. I kept one piece of furniture (a wooden drawer that has been with me since I was a kid), lots of paintings (that don’t take up much space but are great for decorating a space and give it atmosphere straight away), some clothes, some books and 5 bicycles (see fact number one).

Three. I am an amateur birdwatcher, owner of 2 pairs of binoculars and tons of books about birds. A few years ago, I spent 6 months in the Gambia to look for birds…. which resulted in a total of 210 local species observed, and lots of excitement! Any other birdwatcher will be able to tell you what that feels like 😉 The thing is, I don’t only watch birds in forests and parks. I watch birds literally… every second. Whether I am inside or outside. A bird moves, I have seen it.
